I was hugging my DP in the loungeroom earlier today - just a hug as we were passing - and my daughter made the comment "are you two doing sex". I of course thought I had misheard so asked her to repeat it! Loud and clear "are you two doing sex"?
No this is something we have not even thought about approaching with my 4 year old daughter so you can imagine that we were bowled over. Apparantly she heard it from one of her classmates - in junior kindergarten mind you - that sex is something a man and woman do together. I thought I had a few years at least to wait until we got there - they grow up so fast these days!! _________________ http://penmanship.weebly.com/ |

I'm not going to be any help with this one sorry Michelle.
I thought it was bad enough when my daughter asked me when she was about 8.
I think this is why they should never go to school or mix with other humans.
Good luck. _________________ “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.”

Hahaha - sorry Michelle, but it is pretty funny.
I would suggest saying - No, we are having a hug and only tell her things on a need to know basis.
When Jack was about 6 we let him get cereal and eat it and watch the cartoons on Sunday morning while we had a sleep in upstairs. I later found out that if anyone rang he said "mummy and daddy are upstairs sexing!"
I asked him what that was and he said it was like a red cross, the man laid on his back and the lady laid on top of him on her back (interesting) and that was SEXING.

Precious...yes!! At this age I think they hear a word and see other children get a reaction from it, so they bring it home and try it out on us to see what our reaction will be!!
We didn't get the kids bringing home the word "sex", however, while in daycare DS1 did come home with the word "Sexy" and was calling all of us sexy. This was when he was about 4 too.
I just told him that was a word for adults and he was not to use any word unless he knew what it meant. At the time that did not mean much to him and it did take a while for the word to disappear. But we have stood by that statement ever since. If they ever come home swearing or using "adult" words then I ask them if they know what the word means, and then explain that it is only a word for adults and unless they fully understand what a word means, then they are not to use it.
Doesn't always work straight away But they now know what our response will be when they are just outright looking for a reaction. They don't get one, just the same ol' don't use it if you don't understand comment.
When they are a bit older and ask more forward questions, rather than just repeating the word because they think it is funny or are looking to see how people react, then we will more upfront with our answers. _________________ Carolyn

That is a wonderful way to approach it Carolyn - although this little minx thinks she knows what the word means because her friend told her - so it mightn't work this time round!! _________________ http://penmanship.weebly.com/ |
